EXERCISE 5j: The seating arrangement

Seating arrangement in a large lecture hall: 

1)  Does the Deaf person want to sit in the front row?

Or

2)  Does the person prefer to sit elsewhere in the room? 

Suppose the Deaf person prefers to sit in the back row of a large lecture hall

(so that they could doze off or do some texting or such),

should the interpreter offer to sit in the back as well and interpret there?

For each arrangement (1 and 2), write four explanations:  the advantages and problems for both the interpreter and the Deaf person.

Seating arrangement in a small meeting room: 

1)  Does the Deaf person want to sit across from the chairperson so they could face them?   

Or

2)  Does the Deaf person want the interpreter to sit right next to the chairperson? 

If a team of interpreters is employed, where should the second interpreter be seated? 

And how should the switch occur?

For each arrangement (1 and 2), write four explanations:  the advantages and problems for both the interpreter and the Deaf person.

Seating arrangement in a cramped room: 

If there is barely enough room for one interpreter, where should the second interpreter be? 

1) Outside the room and switch when it’s time to do so?

Or

2)  Squeezed into a spot in a corner?
