Exercise 7d – Asking for feedback

Here, you will see videos of interpreters asking for feedback at the end of an interpreting session.   Please rate each video in appropriateness and effectiveness of soliciting feedback from the Deaf person.  After making the selection, provide a brief assessment of the interpreter’s approach and explain why you chose your answer.  Examples of explanation are provided here.

  • The approach used by the interpreter is not effective as they were focused on their emotional support rather than the work itself.
  • The approach used by the interpreter seems appropriate as it invites an honest feedback from the Deaf person.
  • The approach used by the interpreter is effective as they were direct about the type of feedback needed.
  • The approach used by the interpreter is appropriate and effective as the request was made politely and with respect.
  • The approach used by the interpreter is a “turn-off” with their negative tone.
  • The approach used by the interpreter is not appropriate as they seemed to be demanding an answer.
